It has been a regular phrase on the lips of some managers of gospel artiste and music record label owners labelling most gospel artistes ungrateful.
Award-winning gospel artiste, Jemima Annor-Yeboah, known professionally as JAYANA, in an interview with Eric Jeshrun on Light on Live, said tagging gospel artistes ungrateful tarnish their reputation making it difficult for another manager and music record label to work with them.
Jayana noted for her captivating voice said issues between a gospel artiste and manager can be resolved amicably behind the scene.
Adding that managers play a major role in ensuring that their musicians are provided with all the necessary tools to make their work easier.
She urged music producers to continue helping gospel artistes in the country, despite the discouraging attitudes being put up by some of them.
Jayana who is the second daughter of the Late Bishop Dr Annor Yeboah, founder of Christian Praise International Centre (CPIC), also talked about the financial burden with regards to doing gospel music in Ghana.
According to her, it is so challenging for gospel artistes who are not signed to any record label to single-handedly fund their music projects.
She believes gospel music in Ghana can take a different dimension if enough fund is well invested by a label.
“There are no investors or record labels ready to invest in gospel music in Ghana. It is never easy when as a gospel artiste you single-handedly fund your own project. The financial burden is not easy so you definitely need the support of an investor.”
“There might be an iota of truth in why most investors or managers label most gospel artistes ungrateful but I believe music between a manager or a record label and an artiste is like a marriage, it is fifty-fifty deal. Sometimes the artiste might have issues that are impeding his or her music career. If there is something to be discussed between the label and the artiste, it should be done in earnest before things get out of hand rather labelling all gospel artiste ungrateful.” Jayana stated
Jayana participated in the maiden edition of the Stars of the Future talent show, competing with the likes of Irene Logan, Jean now Efya, Ramzy Prince Amui and others.
